The hour between things.

0803 started because of a specific, unglamorous problem: nothing in the closet worked for the whole day. There was gym kit, and there was everything else, and getting from one to the other meant a change of clothes and usually a change of plan.

So we started with three fabrics instead of a mood board. One compressive knit that holds through a class and reads as trousers in a restaurant. One soft knit with enough weight to hang properly. One warm layer that does not add a size. Everything on the floor is cut from those three, in the same seven colours, so the pieces work together without being a uniform.

Why a store first

Two in five pieces of women's apparel bought online come back, almost always for fit. We did not want to build a business on that. We wanted a room where you could put the thing on, hinge forward, sit down, look in a real mirror, and know.

A shipping label cannot tell you the rise is wrong. A customer standing in front of a mirror will.

So the website you are reading is a window, not a till. It tells you what is on the rack, in your size, today. You reserve it, we hang it in a room, and you decide in person. Online ordering will come — after we are confident you can pick your size without thinking about it.

The name

8:03 is the minute the light gets good on Red Hill Avenue, and it is also the class most of us are late to. It seemed like the right thing to name a store after.
